Sea Memorials
St Ives Boats are currently investigating the possibilities of creating a memorial reef in the Atlantic Ocean, for the interment of ashes within a permanent memorial reef ball.
Reef balls are made of a concrete mixed with cremation ashes and are a permanent fixture on the sea bed, often marked with a bronze inscription.
Once approval has been obtained from DEFRA, the governing body for deposits within the ocean, St Ives Boats plan to offer this service to discerning customers looking for a permanent memorial for loved ones.
When established, the reef balls will sustain a wide variety of marine wildlife, becoming an ecologically acceptable method of disposal of cremated remains, with the added advantage of being a permanent memorial for visits by relatives and friends.
